A lot, if not the majority, of Sang Kancil’s fables revolves around how the small mousedeer uses his cunning and wits to trick the animals out of situations which would otherwise get him eaten. All of his foes include larger more threatening creatures which are also the mousedeer’s predators in real life. Big cats, crocodiles, snakes, predatory birds, farmers, and oddly but also true, dogs.
